Constellations are drawn by whoever is looking. In parts of southern Africa the three stars of Orion's belt read as three zebras, and in some Khoikhoi accounts the stars of the Southern Cross belong to a giraffe. Same photons, entirely different animals, because a constellation is a local decision about which dots to join.

Twelve segments, and every creature in them walks or swims or flies on this continent. Antelope, crocodile, fish, elephant, scorpion. An ankh holds one of the wedges, a radiant star sits at the hub with rays reaching each division, and a band of triangular teeth runs around the rim.

The Greeks named their twelve after the animals they knew. This wheel does the same with the animals your people knew, which is how zodiacs have always been made.
