Design Description

In 1729 a French astronomer named de Mairan put a mimosa in a cupboard. The plant opened its leaves in the morning and folded them at night, in total darkness, with the light removed entirely, which meant the rhythm was coming from inside the plant rather than from the sun. That experiment founded the study of circadian clocks, and every living thing tested since has turned out to have one.
