Design Description

In 1761 and again in 1769, expeditions sailed to opposite ends of the world to watch Venus cross the face of the sun. Timing that passage from widely separated points was the method for measuring how far the Earth sits from the sun, which set the scale of the entire solar system. Cook's first Pacific voyage was one of those trips.

The ankh here is rendered in polished orange and deep blue, a star flaring inside the loop and a second flaring at the foot of the stem, light running the full length between them. SOLAR TRANSIT sits below, and under that, THE BIRTH OF I AM.

A transit is one body crossing the face of another, observed and timed to the second. This one runs inside the symbol. Light enters at the crown, travels the stem, and arrives at the base as a declaration.
