Design Description

Give a strip of paper a half twist before joining the ends and you get a surface with one side. Run a pencil along it and the line covers what looked like both faces before returning to the start. Cut it down the middle and you get one longer loop instead of two, which surprises everybody the first time they try it with scissors and a strip of paper on a kitchen table. Möbius and Listing both found it in 1858, independently, in the same year.

An infinity symbol where the two loops are made of different material. One is chain, coming apart at the far end. The other is a starfield with an atom orbiting inside it. They meet at the crossing point, the only place in the figure where the two touch.
