The Dogon hold a ceremony called the Sigui roughly once every sixty years. It runs for several years once it begins and travels village to village along the escarpment. Most people who take part see it once in a lifetime. A few see it twice, and those are the ones carrying the instructions for everybody who has yet to see it at all.

The words stand bold and certain, Mali, Land of the Dogon, with a small diagram of Sirius and its companions resting between them, drawn as precisely as a modern star chart.
