Sri Yukteswar published The Holy Science in 1894 and proposed a revision to the yuga chronology, running a twenty-four-thousand-year cycle with an ascending half and a descending one, tied to the precession of the equinoxes. Classical Sanskrit texts give figures in the millions. His was a deliberate reworking, argued from the sky rather than inherited from the page.
