Design Description

In 1787 Ernst Chladni scattered sand across a metal plate and drew a violin bow along its edge. The sand fled the parts that were vibrating and collected along the lines that stayed still, and those lines came out as geometry: stars, rosettes, lattices, a different figure for every note. Anybody with a plate and a bow can reproduce it this afternoon.

Scattered grains gather into ten perfect petals, drawn together by a vibration too steady to argue with, each curve holding the shape of the tone that called it there. DEFINING FREQUENCY THROUGH PATTERN rests below in quiet unhurried lettering.
